First Spring Weekend--or why we need a hitch for the Chevy Pick Up

  • Mood: tired
  • Tools: shovel, rakes, gardening gloves and more.
Whooo... we spent way too much money this weekend as usual. Or so it seems. Ed continued on the fence project.   It is looking good. We do have to get a hitch so we can move the camper so we can finish the fence! The way Ed designed it, we have to move the camper back about 10 feet.  So... in the meantime... but the fence is 3/4 done!

I came up with the bright idea of a kitchen garden bedhind our outhouse. Don't worry, the outhouse is just decorative and I do not think it has been really used for many years!  In any case, we spent most of Friday cutting down another tree to move forward with the fencing, and then we spent most of today getting the garden put together.  Yesterday I concentrated on some house chores, and my daughter came in from college so we spent some time with her and her boyfriend.

Here are some pictures....

The new gate is done... and swinging properly now after a little bit of a topsy turvy latch episode .

The L of the l-shaped fence configuration going around the outhouse.

My new summer wreath on the front door.

The new kitchen garden up close. I have peas, radishes, scallions, two kinds of lettuce growing there so far.

This picture by Ed shows about 3/4 of our chicken run.  There are three separate "rooms".  In this photo the chickens are penned in the middle room.   To the left is a large mature stand of white pines. I would like to trim some of the interior branches at least, so the chickens gain more light. In the meantime, the area looks very peaceful.

We did other things. This morning we finally got around to planing the front door ... at least some of it. It swings better now. And we did more general planting, and Ed cleaned the fish pond more thoroughly, including taking out the plants and trimming off the dead growth.

This was a busy weekend, but there is only more to come!

You guys were busy bees this weekend! Hey, listen, I know my Avalanche has a hitch, and I think Sam's GMC diesel does also, (batteries need to be charged tho, no biggie) Your welcome to borrow either to move the camper..BTW, Allen is banned from backing up my truck, he tore up the front yard :P
