Productive Weekend and Some Interesting Pictures

  • Mood: accomplished
  • Tools: shovel, garden gloves, screw gun, snippers bucket, etc etc etc
So we have embarked on a new project that was "inspired" by Meat's little sojourn up to Assunpink a few weeks back. We are installing a 3.5 high fence to keep him in.  Luckily the property is already fenced on three sides so we just have to do the driveway side. Ed has come up with an ingenious plan that will allow us to access the camper when we want to take it out. It looks really charming. yesterday was day one and they installed two portions and today we will be constructing the gate to walk through.   In the meantime I was spending some time cutting back some vines.  This is extremely hard work which I really need more manpower to help me with and the right cutting tools, so I may skip it til next weekend.  In the meantime, enjoy these pictures I took yesterday (and a few Ed took last weekend).

First crocus of the season.   Such a promise of spring.

We have enjoyed quite mild weather and Ed moved our Auraucana chicks to their new home in the coop.  Here they are, relaxing together.

This rustic star is just one decoration adorning our outhouse

Some old doors/and other stuff  we have around the property:

The old carriage house door which runs on a track and still works great.

Isn't this door gorgeous? It is beaded boards. I wonder where this door was originally. The side door is not original to the house so maybe there.  I just love it and will find a use for it.... soon!

Old shutters, if not original, they are quite old -- with the original hinges still attached.

An old, Victorian-era Medicine Cabinet. i will find a use for this too!  It is very dirty right now being stored in the carriage house and elements.  Ed already knows these old relics are off limits for the town dump!

Phase one of the fence install.   In the background you can see the nice lattice hybrid fence that our neighbors installed last summer.   We will be getting gravel for the driveway very soon.

More fence pictures. Ed had to create a gate and he is off to Lowes as we speak to get more fence sections.  Today is not as nice of a day as was anticipated, it rained this morning and now is quite cold and murky.

New fence is on the left

The course of fences from the outside angle.

Ed cutting down the mimosa tree near the outhouse. I loved the tree but admit that some of the trees have to go, and most of them are in the middle of the yard. The yard is already brighter without this one tree. There are at least three more to go.

Our collie, named Maggie Doolittle, thinks all this house renovation stuff very boring.  So she decided to take a nap. Alert the media!
